
NOAA and NASA's most recent Global Climate Report finds that 2019 finished as Earth's second warmest year on record. The planet's five warmest years in descending order are 2016 (warmest), 2019, 2015, 2017, and 2018. Additionally, the ocean saw record-setting warmth, with the highest ocean heat content ever recorded, which describes the amount of heat stored in the upper-levels of the ocean.
