LEO Science Seminar: Applications of the Joint Polar Satellite System in Observing Long-Term Changes on the Earth

Presenter(s):

Josh Reiter, Satellite Imagery Producer and Communicator, Cooperative Institute for Research in the Atmosphere (CIRA) / Colorado State University

Description:

Since the launch of Suomi-NPP in 2011, there has been over a decade’s worth of high-resolution imagery from all over the world captured by the Joint Polar Satellite System (JPSS). Over that period, many changes have occurred across the Earth’s surface, and JPSS has been there to document them, utilizing the onboard VIIRS instrument. Examples such as the changing water levels of hydrological systems over a sustained period will be included. From natural processes to manmade developments, this presentation will showcase imagery from JPSS of these features observed over the course of months to years.
