In August 2024, NOAA released the summary of the results of the Space Weather Data Pilot conducted under NOAA’s National Environmental Satellite, Data, and Information Service (NESDIS) Commercial Data Program.
In this Pilot, NOAA evaluated space weather parameters derived from procured GNSS radio occultation data.
This preliminary analysis indicates that the commercially sourced data could be useful; however, based on the pilot results and the subsequent Government evaluations, NOAA concludes that further analysis of the data is needed in order to implement it into NOAA operational systems.

The draft SOW contains NOAA’s requirements for the data we plan to purchase via this acquisition, including the quality of the data, distribution of data points around the globe, and latency.
NOAA will collect comments for one week and will consider all comments received as we develop the final SOW. The final SOW will be released as part of an upcoming Request for Proposals, which is planned for release in the coming months.
